Homework will now include Utips along with nightly reading and keyboarding. The link below will take you to my Utips page. Just follow the instructions there. Remember to do your best. If you score below 85%, please take it again. If you don't see a test, I haven't opened it yet. Each week I will open new tests.
Note to Parents: I have walked the students through the process and they have practiced at school so they know what to do.

Animal Reports
When Jane Goodall was a child, she dreamed about going to Africa. Her mother laughed because they didn't have any money, but as a young woman, she went to Tanzania and entered the world of the chimpanzees. All she had was a notebook and binoculars. Through quiet observation and patience, she earned the trust of a group of chimpanzees and now she is the "voice" for this amazing species.
"Only if we understand, can we care."
The next several weeks you have the opportunity to learn about an animal and write a report. Mr. DeLong said the rough draft is due in a couple of weeks, so get started right away. I will give you the tools to make this an enjoyable experience. Today, you learned how to outline the information and write down your sources. Please use the outline form I gave you today. I found a couple of websites that might be helpful for you to use and you can find the links below. Don't forget to use Webpath Express like Mrs. Fillerup showed you and Pioneer Library too. I can't wait to here about all the wonderful things you find out about your animal. In the next few days we will continue to write a class report, so that you understand the process. Please do not choose a giant panda since that is the animal we are learning about in class.

"The BFG" in Review by Madison
I love this book! The BFG was written by Roald Dahl. Well, first there is a little girl name Sophie. She sees a huge figure in the witching hour. She was frightened at the sight. Then the figure grabbed a suitcase and took a huge jar out of it. He poured the contents of the jar into a big trumpet. Would you like to know more? Well you'll just have to read it. Happy reading!
Take a look at some of the dream jars and wanted posters our class made.

Habitat Cubes
Our class is learning about animal habitats this term. A habitat is a plant or animals home. In their habitat they have everything they need to survive: food, water, shelter, and a place to raise young.
You will be expected to create a habitat cube and teach the class about the habitat you chose. The following links are wonderful resources and hopefully you will find them helpful as you begin your research.

Hey!
What do you say?
Let's go play!
It's snowing! It's snowing!
And I love the blowing.
Hot Chocolate
by Kelsey
We are eating hot chocolate in my nice warm home.
Because we just ate an ice cream cone.
We also have a fire on,
I was so tired, I had to yawn.

ikeepsafe.org
I reviewed the rules for keeping safe on the internet with my class and we watched "Faux Paw, the Techno Cat." Faux Paw makes a big mistake when she agrees to meet a friend she met online. She learns a great lesson and our class learned how important it is to keep our personal information safe. The website we used is www.ikeepsafe.org. It has a parent section as well as a kids section. In the parent section, you can find family fun lessons and in the kids section, you can watch Faux Paw's video or read the book.

Happy New Year and New Smartkiddies Math
Welcome to 2011...Happy New Year!
I hope you have enjoyed using Smartkiddies Mathematics to practice what is learned in the classroom. I have some big news...Smartkiddies has changed to StudyLadder. It has added literacy (reading) practice along with math. They have assigned new passwords and I will be passing them out to you when we return to school. Logging in is much simpler. I can show you on Monday. We don't have a class login anymore, now you only have to use your login and password one time to get in. This allows you to keep your points and profile when you move on to 4th grade.
